Clear your calendars the next Six Hour Startup Project is happening March 8th and 9th at the SODO Saturday House!

We are building a firefox extension that tracks which webpages are visited, and sends the URLS to a tracking service built using Seaside. This will enable people to surf each others histories, and perhaps will allow co-surfing of webpages.

The goal of the six hour startup project is take an idea to live implementation in 6 hours, with a focus on creating something that could be a viable product. Beyond that we’re mostly interested in fostering the kind of community that is capable of creating these sorts of things, while learning what it takes to get a product off the
ground, what techniques work for this kind of ad-hoc development, etc. We want to create a space where we can gain experience by learning what works and what doesn’t work, and having projects where it is safe to fail.

Want to participate? We are looking for developers, business people, graphics designers, techies or anyone else who is interested in participating in a fun weekend activity where you create and learn something new. The project will kick off at noon on Sunday March 9th and run for six hours. It is encouraged that you participate for the entire session however if you can only spare a few hours, feel free to participate.

We ask that you send an RSVP Request to roberte3@gmail.com , with your name, and what kind of role you would like. We are looking for smalltalkers, javascript gurus, graphics designers, business people and anyone else who has a passon for technology. If you don’t know it, you probably can learn it!

The details:

Please send RSVP request to roberte3@gmail.com

The development platform this month is going to be javascript and smalltalk/seaside.
Because seaside is used by relatively few people in the Seattle area, we are going to be conducting an impromptu training season on the technology at Saturday House on March 8th.

Directions to SODO Saturday House can be found here.

The project will unofficially kick off Sunday March 9th at 11:00AM, we will spend an hour or so getting all of the participants machines talking to the subversion repository etc. We have a VMWare image that everyone can use with all of the development tools. We ask that you bring your own laptop.

The source code will be released under a BSD License. All participants will be credited in the documentation, on the website, and in the press release.

The fine print:
Six Hour Startup is an open event that occurs on the second Saturday of each month. This is a learning experience… any project that occurs is a success, so long as there is something to be learned.

Everyone is encouraged to fail fast, fail early and have fun!
